“The happiness for a bee […] is to exist. For human beings, it is to know it and to marvel at it” (Jacques-Yves Cousteau). To marvel prevents us from harming the object of our wonder. It is also necessary to be able to protect, restore, conserve those that have already suffered from a lack of wonder.
URBAN OASIS MANIFESTO
- We advocate for the well-being of honeybees as individual social insects and sentient beings.
- We defend the right for the honeybees to live without obligation to Humans.
- We draw attention to the fragility of our honeybees and their dependence on our kindness.
- We believe in the self determination of honeybees. Bees work for themselves, not for the humans. We only provide them with a refuge, food when necessary and healthcare when needed.
- We respect and value the diverse and powerful contribution that honeybees make to our society and to the world.
- We undertake to work together urgently to address the significant challenges and stop the exploitation of the honeybees.
- We urge policy makers to develop legislation that support and protect our pollinators.
- We call upon public and private organization to provide access and funding for the creation of more Microsanctuaries.
- We seek to live in a society that protects honeybees, not exploits them.
- We are dedicated to working towards an environmentally sustainable future and will use all the tools we have to inspire the transformational change that is needed.
- We encourage others to develop more microsanctuaries.
- We are committed to openness and transparency in all our decisions and spending.
